This new £61m new-build facility for The University of Manchester will be the UK’s home of research into the world’s thinnest, strongest and most conductive material.
Scope of works
Initial excavation of 1,500m3 to enable the piling mat construction and import of suitable aggregates. Once piling was completed by the Client, 10,000m3 bulk excavation of materials was carried out using GPS enabled plant.

Situated in the heart of a large residential area, PP O’Connor was appointed to demolish the original school buildings as a new Academy had been built to replace it.
Scope of works
Internal soft strip; licenced asbestos removal; service disconnection; drains capped off; removal of existing services; demolition of school using controlled collapse techniques; excavation and removal of structural foundations; excavation and removal of lighting columns and all external hard standings, roadways and car parks. All materials suitable for recycling were crushed onsite using PP O’Connor’s mobile crusher.
