P.P. O’Connor has commenced enabling works at Stretford Mall in Stretford, Manchester, marking the specialist contractor’s involvement in one of the most significant town centre regeneration projects in the North West of England.
Appointed by Bruntwood, P.P. O’Connor’s experienced team mobilised to site in late March 2026, beginning with a seven-week soft strip delivered with a strong emphasis on waste segregation, recycling and sustainable construction practices. Demolition of the main section of the Mall is now underway and will be followed by a package of civils works, including foundation removal, drainage installation and the construction of a new entrance road. Expected to continue for approximately 26 weeks, together, these critical enabling works will pave the way for the next phase of the landmark Stretford regeneration masterplan.

Future plans
The works form part of the wider transformation of Stretford Mall, a 350,000 sq ft shopping complex where Bruntwood and Trafford Council are co-developing plans that will deliver the most transformative change to Stretford Mall since its redevelopment was approved in 2023. The wider scheme, which forms part of Stretford Town Centre’s ambitious regeneration vision, will deliver 248 new homes and a new public park with allocated funding from Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham’s £1bn Good Growth Fund.
In total, around 800 homes are planned as part of the Stretford Mall redevelopment, alongside commercial and leisure space, with construction on the first major residential phase expected to run through to 2029.
