P.P. O’Connor continues to expand its presence beyond its Northwest roots, delivering high-profile, complex, demolition and civil engineering projects across the UK.
Demolition of two of Edgbaston Stadium’s stands has been completed as part of a £46m redevelopment intended to modernise the Birmingham ground ahead of the 2027 Men’s Ashes Series.
Working in partnership with main contractor, Sisk, specialist contractor P.P. O’Connor undertook the demolition of the Raglan and Priory stands together with the main hospitality concourse.

The team completed a three-week soft-strip prior to the stands being demolished. The demolition involved the removal of the steel and concrete reinforced stands, seating terraces and the removal of the stand’s slabs and its foundations.
With sustainability at the heart of the project, the concrete base and slabs were crushed and processed on-site reducing carbon emissions in moving products off-site, promoting re-use of materials on-site in the future re-development.
P.P. O’Connor’s, Site Manager commented,
“We’re proud to have delivered this demolition safely, sustainably, and with minimal impact, clearing the way for redevelopment of this iconic landmark.”
P.P. O’Connor executed the works with minimum impact to the local community given the close nature of the residential properties which surround the works. Measurements implemented to minimise impact on the local community included an effective traffic management plan and considerate working hours.
The demolition makes way for a new development, which will see the stands replaced with enhanced spectator facilities and a new four-star Radisson RED hotel.
By combining specialist expertise with a reputation for reliability, P.P. O’Connor is strengthening relationships with national contractors. This growth reflects the company’s strategic ambition to bring its technical capability, sustainable working practices and collaborative approach to a wider range of clients and regions.
